* 1996 in Belgrad, studierte Grafik und Buchkunst an der Universität der Künste Belgrad und seit 2017 Bildende Kunst in die Klasse von Thomas Zipp an der Universität der Künste in Berlin. Sie wohnt in Berlin.
Ich denke, dass eine Künstlerin, oder überhaupt irgendwer, nicht in einem Vakuum arbeiten kann, und dass jedes Kunstwerk auf die vorhergegangenen antwortet und auf ihnen aufbaut. Meine Arbeit untersucht den Einfluss des Kanons der Westeuropäische Kunstgeschichte auf unsere Gesellschaft heute, sowie unseren persönlichen Begriff von Kunst und Geschmack.
Ich versuche den monumentalen Eindruck kanonischer Werke durch das Missachten der strengen Regeln der realistischen Malereitechnik und Komposition zu brechen und kommentiere meinen Bilder mit Text und Collagen von Referenzen und fremden Elementen. Außerdem produziere ich meine Arbeiten meistens in Serien, sodass einige Charaktere und Orte mehrmals vorkommen, was mir eine Art von Nachahmung des Kanons ermöglicht. Damit möchte ich die künstlerische Produktion einer Mythologie zurückfordern.
Ana Tomic (born 1996 in Belgrade) studied Print- and Bookmaking at the Belgrade University of the Arts and now studies Fine Arts in the Class of Prof. Thomas Zipp at the Berlin University of the Arts. She lives in Berlin.
I believe that an artist, or anyone for that matter, cannot work in a vacuum and that every new artwork responds or continues on what came before. My work examines the influence canonical West-European art history has in the shaping of our society today, as well as our personal ideas of art and taste.
I try to break the monumental impression of canonical works by disregarding the strict rules of realistic painting techniques and composition, adding text and collaging my references with out of place elements. I also produce most of my works in series, with some characters and places appearing multiple times, which allows me to in a way mimic the canon, and reclaim the artistic production of a mythology for myself.
